In September, we took a one day cruise on the Holland America Oosterdam to get from Seattle to Vancouver for our cruise on the Norwegian Bliss. We flew into Seattle originally because it was a non-stop, much shorter travel day out of Charlotte. We had intended on taking the train up to Vancouver and spend the night there.
However, I was a member of a Facebook group (which consisted of the other passengers that were going to be on the NCL Bliss) where one of the admins mentioned that she was going to take this one night cruise on the Oosterdam to get to Vancouver for only $49 for an inside cabin! $49?!? That was cheaper than just our train tickets. Which, thank goodness, I hadn’t yet purchased!
Booking Our Cruise
Needless to say, I couldn’t get on Costco Travel fast enough to book this cruise. We originally booked an inside cabin on deck 10 (close to the buffet and the pool area) but were “upgraded” to an oceanview cabin a few days before embarkation.
At first, I wasn’t super happy about it. I love cruising… I really do. But, there are still a few things that give me pause about it, and being close to the water line is one of them. In all honesty, that’s why I haven’t been on a river cruise, because the rooms we can afford are right at the waterline. 😬 When we found out that we had been moved from deck 10 to deck 1, I was nervous! Come to find out, the room location turned out fine. It was far enough from the water that I couldn’t see it when I looked out the window. I can imagine in rough waters that would be completely different, but for sailing from Seattle to Vancouver, it was fine.
Now that I’ve yammered on about all that — let’s check out the room!
Cabin
This oceanview cabin on the Oosterdam was situated with the bed in front of you when you walk into the room. On your right when you enter were the closets, and the bathroom was to the left. This cabin slept four (maybe five?) with a sofa that makes a bed and the pull-down bed from the ceiling.
Bathroom
The bathroom was your typical Holland America bathroom layout. I love HAL because they offer bathtubs! And they are regular size! No squeezing into one of those bathroom tubes. 🤣 In the shower, there is shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, all from Elemis. It also had a clothesline to hang wet clothes or bathing suits from.
Overall, it was a really great room if only for one night. If you want to see more of the room, hop on over to my YouTube channel to see the full tour!
