My husband is a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Born near Pittsburgh… Loved them his whole life… You know the drill.

So these past few years, in the fall, we have tried to go to a game so he can root on his favorite team in person.

For him, it’s a weekend of football and visiting his hometown. For me, it means we get to go to Mandy’s Pizza!

We found Mandy’s on our first visit to Pittsburgh by accident. I have the “Find Me Gluten Free” app on my phone, and after a game one day, I was looking for somewhere that I could safely eat dinner. I wanted something that I couldn’t get at home, and Mandy’s fit the bill!

If there’s one main reason that I love Mandy’s Pizza so much, it’s that there are few restaurants that I have been to that cater to food allergies so well. On their website they say — “Unlike eateries who can “accommodate” some of your restrictions, but really do not understand them, Mandy’s Pizza lives and breathes this everyday.”  Truer words were never spoken.  I have only been there a few times, but every time, I have had a great experience — from the food to the service. All great!

I’m a big fan of their flatbread sandwiches. I have tried the turkey and the roast beef, with the roast beef being my absolute favorite! You can check out their gluten free menu here:

The first time we ate there, we tried their pizza and it was pretty good. No picture though! We were starving that day (went to a 1:00 game without eating and went looking for food afterwards) and I forgot to take a picture of it before we scarfed it down!

Last time we were there we tried the french fries and they were exceptional! But, if there’s anything I know about Pittsburgh, it’s that they put fries on everything. So, I would believe they know how to make good french fries! I mean, I’m pretty sure they have about three options of pizza with fries on it! 😉

So, if you are in the Pittsburgh area on your travels, definitely stop by Mandy’s Pizza for some gluten free (or any food allergy for that matter) eats! Highly recommend!

Gluten Free Options At Heinz Field

On a side note, I have had people ask if there is anything gluten free at Heinz Field that can be safely eaten.  The answer is “yes!”. According to the website:

Items such as the following are all gluten free: Nachos Grande, Peanuts, BBQ, Hot, and Medium Wings, Chicken Breast (no bun), Super Dog w/Chili (no bun), Cheese and Sauerkraut, Smoked Sausage (no bun), Footlong Hot Dog (no bun), Super Dog (no bun).

Where’s your favorite place to eat in Pittsburgh? I’d love to try something new the next time we are there! Don’t get me wrong… after I go to Mandy’s! 🙂
